Fay, S&B USA Construction's scope of work includes the demolition and reconstruction of the Eastbound (EB) and Westbound (WB) I-80 bridges over North Fork Redbank Creek, Water Plant Road and the Walter Dick Memorial Park.
Fay, S&B USA Construction was contracted by Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC), the design-build construction entity as a prime contractor to perform demolition and replacement of two I-81 spans over the Susquehanna River.
This project consists of work associated with Monongahela River Locks and Dam no. 3 (also called Elizabeth Locks and Dams) demolition, establishment of the new navigable channel and stabilization of the monoliths to remain after construction.
The scope of work for this project includes the demolition of ten remnant piers located on the southeast side of the existing Susquehanna River Bridge. The piers are solid shaft piers that are approximately 20 ft above the waterline and are approximately 24 ft long by 8 ft wide.
As a subcontractor, Fay performed the demolition of the 1306 ft long Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and approaches. Much of the work was performed via a 150-ton barge-based crane and a specialty barge crane. The bridge was removed by sawing and lifting the deck in segments and burning and lifting the steel.
The Ft. Eustis Bridge, the entrance to Joint Base Langley-Eustis, was widened during its reconstruction to provide better access.
Fay was contracted for the removal and replacement of existing lift gates 9 and 10 at the Montgomery Lock and Dam. When complete, the work at Montgomery will address reliability concerns by replacing the aging and deteriorated auxiliary chamber with a new primary chamber.
For six years, Fay was heavily involved in several different aspects of the construction of Shell's new ethylene cracker plant.
Fay recently upgraded Berth 3 of Seagirt Marine Terminal to meet the requirements of post Panamax ships that call on the port and accommodate bigger ships.
