Howard Street Tunnel Clearance Program

In a joint venture with Skanska, Fay is set to complete a progressive design-build project that will increase the clearance of the Howard Street Tunnel from 19 to 21 feet to permit the safe passage of double-stack trains. This will be a complex project due to the fact that construction will be completed while trains are actively using the tracks, and they occasionally need to pass through construction areas. Howard Street Tunnel is centrally positioned on CSXT’s I-95 rail corridor, which runs from Florida to New England and connects all the major population centers on the East Coast. The work consists of demolition, structural modifications, underpinning, drainage installation and track work.
